PubChem is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM's) open chemistry database with data from over 1,000 academic, government, and industrial sources. The updated, free, self-paced PubChem tutorial guides you through how to access chemical property information, structure data, and links between PubChem and other resources (like PubMed).

The tutorial includes:

  • Step-by-step directions for how to find chemical information using chemical names, identifiers, structures, molecular formulas, gene symbols, proteins, pathways, taxons, cell lines, and patent numbers.
  • Hands-on interactive exercises to practice searching in PubChem.
  • Short video demonstrations of searching PubChem with keywords and structures.

To receive two Medical Library Association continuing education credits, register to take the tutorial on the Network of the National Library of Medicine website.
