RxNorm September 2018 Release

RxNorm September 2018 Release. NLM Tech Bull. 2018 Sep-Oct;(424):b4.

September 06, 2018 [posted]

The September full monthly release of RxNorm and release notes are available as of Tuesday, September 4, 2018. In this release, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is pleased to announce the addition of new data from the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Compendial Nomenclature and a suite of new RxNorm attributes.

The USP Compendial Nomenclature
Integrating USP Compendial Nomenclature into RxNorm will help reduce nomenclature errors, particularly for substances with different salt forms (e.g. diclofenac potassium and diclofenac sodium). For more information, see RxNorm Adds USP Compendial Nomenclature Data Source.

New RxNorm Attributes
The basis of strength substance (BoSS) is now explicitly indicated in RxNorm allowing improved alignment with international drug data standards. There are seven new attributes associated with the Semantic Clinical Drug Component (SCDC) term type (TTY) in RxNorm.

New attribute descriptions are available in Appendix 4 – RxNorm Attributes. For more information, see RxNorm Aligns with International Drug Models by Adding New Attributes.
