Change to MARCXML Format for CatfilePlus and Serfile

Change to MARCXML Format for CatfilePlus and Serfile. NLM Tech Bull. 2021 May-Jun;(440):e5.

May 20, 2021 [posted]

With the implementation of the Alma Library Services Platform on June 8, 2021 (see New Library Services Platform and Public Catalog Coming Soon), the MARCXML format for cataloging records in CatfilePlus and Serfile will be updated. The newly generated MARCXML records will contain the "marc" prefix as part of the namespace and will no longer include a carriage return between elements. The records in CatfilePlus and Serfile will reflect the revised MARCXML structure starting with the July 1, 2021 files.

Below are examples of the current MARCXML format and the revised MARCXML format.

Current MARCXML

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><collection xmlns="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim">
  <record>
    <leader>02751cam a2200481 a 4500</leader>
    <controlfield tag="001">101581636</controlfield>
    <controlfield tag="005">20210422125909.0</controlfield>
    <controlfield tag="008">110803s2012    mauac    b    001 0 eng d</controlfield>
    <datafield tag="015" ind1=" " ind2=" ">
      <subfield code="a">GBB194517</subfield>
      <subfield code="2">bnb</subfield>
    </datafield>

Revised MARCXML

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><marc:collection xmlns:marc="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim"><marc:record><marc:leader>02751cam a2200481 a 4500</marc:leader><marc:controlfield tag="001">101581636</marc:controlfield><marc:controlfield tag="005">20210422125909.0</marc:controlfield><marc:controlfield tag="008">110803s2012    mauac    b    001 0 eng d</marc:controlfield><marc:datafield tag="015" ind1=" " ind2=" "><marc:subfield code="a">GBB194517</marc:subfield><marc:subfield code="2">bnb</marc:subfield></marc:datafield>

As a reminder, files for CatfilePlus and Serfile can be downloaded in MARCXML from the Download Catalog Record Data page. The naming convention for these files gives the name of the database and the posting date with a suffix of ".marcxml.xml," e.g., catplus.20200501.marcxml.xml.
