Celebrating MeSH®: Fifty Years of Medical Subject Headings®
Celebrating MeSH®: Fifty Years of Medical Subject Headings®. NLM Tech Bull. 2010 May-Jun;(374):e21.
June 16, 2010 [posted]
Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) was first published in 1960; in 2010, we observe fifty years of this subject control authority. The first edition of MeSH represented a departure from the "then" usual library practice; MeSH was designed to be used for both indexing and cataloging. MeSH continues to evolve and grow. The 2010 edition contains more than 25,000 subject headings in a twelve-level hierarchy.
The NLM® MeSH Section created Web pages that celebrate the highlights of MeSH, its growth, and the staff who have been its creative force.
