New SNOMED CT® Available

The SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) January 31, 2008 International Release was made available for download from the Unified Medical Language System Knowledge Source Server® (UMLSKS®) on February 4. It includes:

  • SNOMED_CT_Essential_20080131.zip (134M)
    This file contains the International Release Essential Resources including SNOMED CT terminology, cross maps, subsets, documentation, and other resources. Includes the User Guide.
  • SNOMED_CT_Optional_20080131.zip (2.9M)
    This file contains the International Release Option Resources including the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) cross map, and US drug extensions.

To access these files you must have an active UMLS Metathesaurus® license and valid UMLSKS account. After you login to the UMLSKS, click on "SNOMED CT" under the "Downloads" section on the left side of the page to download the files.

Additional information regarding SNOMED CT and the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation is available on the NLM SNOMED CT page. Training materials and information about the UMLS are available from the NLM UMLS Web site.
