This poster includes two photographs. The top image shows women working in a wheat field. The bottom shows a group of female militia marching barefoot on a lake shore.

The captions suggest that family planning has allowed women to participate more productively in the labor market and Chinese society more wholly.

About the Collection

This collection of family planning posters from 1977 solidify the role of family planning in the building of a socialist Chinese society. Largely featuring women and occasionally quotations from Mao Zedong, these posters exemplify the politicization of family planning in 1970s China.
